Smile

Smile

Halloween & Christmas is right around the corner & it seems very easy to fall into the festive cheer & holiday season. But to be honest, not everyone does. Every year, around the very first snowfall & cold chill – people segregate into 3 different sections – happy, grumpy or simply nonchalant.

The grumpy ones – I seem to stay far from. All they do is complain, get angry, yell, portray no character in their appearance or conversation & don’t even smile. Well, the nonchalant ones – they simply move through life with no strong opinion…they just are. That leaves me with the happy people. Well, around this time of the year (or even consistently during the year), there is this strong notion & tendency to get caught up in “life” – tasks to complete, targets to achieve, gifts to buy, stockings to fill, games to watch, bills to pay, trips to plan for, rush hour traffic, schedule our online posts…..get my drift? The busyness of life results in us losing the enjoyment, satisfaction and pleasure of each cherished moment.

Throughout this, people simply forget smile. Smile at life. Smile with friends. Smile at strangers….doesn’t matter. Let’s drill this down even more…no matter what moment happens in life, there is the opportunity for true happiness. That happiness doesn’t have to be defined by jumping up for joy; utmost pleasure, hugging people you don’t know or even screaming “yay” on the streets. It can be defined simply by living in the moment, being happy & etching it in our memory banks.

Every day, we all encounter an opportunity for happiness or something that makes us smile. Take that advantage. If that means you smile at paying for someone’s coffee at the local coffee shop; or smiling at a kid who is crying; or even letting a rushed person in during rush hour traffic – it’s smile. Just smile. It’s an immediate attraction for another smile to happen.  Can you imagine the residual effect of that one smile…

Now, I am not for one second indicating that we smile all day, at every happy moment – grinning ear to ear. I’m just saying that we can “smile” more, outwardly & inwardly. Happiness & smiles are external & internal – that’s what makes everything just A OK! Have you sat back, closed your eyes and simply felt a warm, content, happiness feeling inside? That could relate to a happy experience in life, a joyous moment you shared with a friend or doing something great for someone else! But that feeling you get is indescribable. What effort does it take? Not long right…

So, what reason do you have right now to simply smile? Do you:

Have someone special in your life who loves & cares about you?

See the mountains, trees, river, sunrise or sunset & appreciate them in their natural beauty?

Do something humble & kind everyday because you believe in generosity, compassion & paying it forward?

Have the chance to help someone who is in need?

Have a car; a roof over your head; warm food to eat & a job you can feel proud of?

Have a great family & friend network who love, care & support you in everything you do?

Appreciate the finer yet simplest things in life? Such as the sweet taste of chocolate; blowing bubbles on a summer day; listening to your favourite song in the car?

Have someone you can come home to & love unconditionally?

Have the opportunity to appreciate every breath you take?

Do you have the time to reflect on the examples above and simply smile?

I think you get my drift? Yo may have them all; you may have a few or even may not have any of the above – but more than anything – I guarantee that you have something in your life you can smile about. Please…please don’t forget to smile. Life gets rough. Shit happens that you can’t control. Things will irritate you. Things will bother you. Things will happen that make you think…is it worth it? These examples all occur when you mind gets caught up in these un-smiling thoughts. But does it really matter…truly. Does it. Not really…But you’ll have to take the time to eliminate all those thoughts & get to the point of simply smiling…that could be externally or internally.

Once you get there – I guarantee that it’ll change your outlook in life. Rather than worry about the stresses & negativities of life – you’re only opportunity will be to appreciate the beauties in life. You’re only opportunity will be to seize the day – CarpeDiem – living life to it’s fullest – happily and courageously.

So don’t be like the rest, be your own, happy self. Simply smile. I know I will try to do the same…

I believe in happy ever afters, whether they’re in books or life. I believe that the world is an occasional scary place, one where we need to carve out caves of safety. I believe in the power of the human spirit. I believe it’s a sin to be bored in a world filled with information, beauty, and fascinating things around us. I believe in making a positive difference – everyday – in the lives of everyone I meet. No judgements. No ego. No expectations. Making a difference in just ONE life means that ONE life made better. God Bless.

I first met Asif on Twitter. I had just walked away from one of the worst car shopping experiences I'd ever had (a Kia dealership) and *tweeted* it. Very soon after I received a tweet back from this "Asif Premji" guy. "Sorry to hear your car buying experience wasn't more positive - what are you looking for?"

This was the first of many messages which has lead to not only the purchase (six months later) of a new Honda Civic Si for my wife but a professional and loyal relationship with Asif and his team.

There is outstanding customer experience and then there is the unexpected and appreciated *Asif* level of customer experience.

I would not hesitate to do or refer business with Asif and his team. By far one of the most enjoyable and confident car buying experiences in my lifetime.

At Okotoks Honda I witnessed, "I actually give a $&@# about my customer", not just in words but in every day actions, long before I purchased a care and ever since. This is what I would call, Integrity in ACTION. It's not about the one off sale for them, Asif and his team truly understand the lifetime value of a single customer.

If you're going to buy a Honda, it's well worth the trip to Okotoks and buy from anyone on Asif's team
