The Branding Advantage: YOU

In life, in business, in relationships – never ever sell the product, idea or want people want to here. The only sure way to success is to sell yourself and the service you can provide. The way you answer the phone; how quickly you answer a question; how you say hello; smile and hi or walk and pass by. Whatever it is – you are selling yourself at any moment.

Selling truly is about the ideas and interest you bring to your every day exchange with potential clients.  This is what makes you special, unique and with a competitive edge with brand marketing. Publications and online studies clearly show significant paradigm shifts in the way buyers are making their decisions. With my observations over the past several years, since the introduction to online information sharing and social media, the biggest paradigm shift I see is this: consumer behaviour is dictates that they would rather choose to do business with organizations who provide a wow factor; this can include inspirational service, outside the box thinking & catered one-to-one relationship building. But when all choices are considered, buyers usually make their final choice based on how they have been treated and how they feel.

It’s All On You.

At the end of the day, wherever you work, irrespective of the organization and their products or services – it doesn’t matter.  The marketing and advertising dollars spent to bring clients in doesn’t matter.  The management group, their training and support, overall operational directions – doesn’t matter. What you do, how you do, when you do & where you do – matters.

A very good friend, Vince Fowler, recently blogged, you must be “Interested versus Interesting.” No matter what, regardless of the amount of people you work with, you are the only one who can control the entire customer service experience. You can depend on processes or others to fill the gap – but you control it. You control the greeting, the qualification, the relationship, the product – everything – it’s all on you.

That is why I, just like people like Robin Sharma, constantly say that the level of “wow” service  you bring to every exchange, hello and interaction will set the tone.  Information sharing is key right now and your willingness to share that experience freely, openly with no expectation in return – will lead to residual success. Give first & watch it come back to you. So your thoughts, action, frankness, calmness, composure and inspiration is what sets you apart from everyone else. There is only ONE of you right?

Many have said, blogged, posted & articled that target markets truly are not motivated by great deals or saving of money. Rather, everyone, including me, looks for service; a dash of charisma, a hint of control; a cup of humility; a tablespoon of smiles/happiness; a bar of active listening and a bag of wow; mix it up and voila! I can think of many people that exemplify this but one awesome automotive icon I thought of was Elise Kephart (The YouTubeDiva) – who has done so well for herself when it comes to branding.

You Can Aspire, Inspire & Desire.

Everyday, you will come in contact with many people. People who observe what you say. People who want to know what you do. People who want something from you. People who don’t know what they want. People who want to hire you. Whatever it is, the most valuable thing you can deliver to either of them is YOU. Serve to connect, create, communicate, cultivate and commit to being interested, not interesting. Heck, even if you’re going for a job interview – it’s not about business, product, service, profits, gains, losses etc…it’s about selling YOU. The brand you develop about why you are worth more than anything is the most crucial element in anything we do.

Lastly, it’s not the brains, the brown, the brilliance, the benefit or the business.

It’s about the brand and the belief that you are you and that’s that.
