The Power of Words to Create Change

The Power of Words to Create Change

As 2015 recently came to an end and 2016 has begun, I tell you all: it's a fresh start, a fresh page & a fresh beginning to shaping our future. As we reflect back to our successes, missed opportunities, challenges & milestones, we must look into how we will flourish the next chapter in 2016.

In any blogpost of mine, the words I use to express my thoughts have been very selective. The reason is because words are very powerful. As much as my words resonate with my experiences, you, also, probably have very strong memories associated with words spoken by you, to you or about you. Some good, some not so good.

No matter what has happened, words have the power to inspire, motivate, create change & positivity in our lives & the lives of others. That leads me to a story I recently heard about a young man’s choice of words & how it changed & shaped his future. While completing his high school diploma, his mentor took the time to encourage him, share words of wisdom, empower, motivate & tell him how smart he was. From the day his mentor started importing positivity & affirmative words of wisdom, this young man started to believe he was smart, that he could change the world & make the world a better place. Everyday, he added more focus & effort in everything he did. His attendance & grades improved, he became more confident, he got involved in extra-curricular activities, he became happier, smarter & felt great about who he was. The words imparted by his mentor allowed this young man to believe the future was his & how words he heard consistently from his mentor could create such change.

He remembers hugging his mentor & becoming emotional on graduation day…even when his mentor continued to preach a last set of words before entering university. This young man’s entire life was partially altered & changed with the simplicity of positive, constructive & guiding words. The story further continues about how life was before his mentor…a life of chaos, mediocrity, challenges, a judgemental family, depression…who would have thought life could get better. Yet, the words of wisdom from his mentor changed how he viewed himself, his life & what he was really capable of doing…with no limitations! Those words spread life into him then, & as I know, even today, many years later, they still producing good positivity, prosperity & can-do attitude in his life and in the life of his family.

Moral of the story: Your tongue has the power of life & death. Love & Hate. Success & failure. Peace & Chaos…the list can go on.

Words I use create the environment I live in. I can choose to use words that either build me up or break me down. I can choose to use words to create passion & fuel inside my heart or laziness in my life. I can choose words to uplift my life, speak the truth & spread love or simply create a whirlwind of negativity. I ask that you do the same. Choose your words wisely…as you don’t know the power they hold.

Create a 2016 chapter where we can speak love & life into our families, friends & everyone we meet. Let us choose our words wisely so we can build them up, encourage those who need it, help those who have the capability of rising higher than their imagination. Let us keep our mind, body & soul clear of useless words. Let us NOT allow unhealthy, negative, unnecessary talk exude from our mouths as they will only fuel a disaster of loneliness, turmoil & shit in our daily lives.

Let us all recognize the power of our words & conscientiously choose to speak love, life, laughter & happiness into others.

I believe in happy ever afters, whether they’re in books or life. I believe that the world is an occasional scary place, one where we need to carve out caves of safety. I believe in the power of the human spirit. I believe it’s a sin to be bored in a world filled with information, beauty, and fascinating things around us. I believe in making a positive difference – everyday – in the lives of everyone I meet. No judgements. No ego. No expectations. Making a difference in just ONE life means that ONE life made better. God Bless.

I first met Asif on Twitter. I had just walked away from one of the worst car shopping experiences I'd ever had (a Kia dealership) and *tweeted* it. Very soon after I received a tweet back from this "Asif Premji" guy. "Sorry to hear your car buying experience wasn't more positive - what are you looking for?"

This was the first of many messages which has lead to not only the purchase (six months later) of a new Honda Civic Si for my wife but a professional and loyal relationship with Asif and his team.

There is outstanding customer experience and then there is the unexpected and appreciated *Asif* level of customer experience.

I would not hesitate to do or refer business with Asif and his team. By far one of the most enjoyable and confident car buying experiences in my lifetime.

At Okotoks Honda I witnessed, "I actually give a $&@# about my customer", not just in words but in every day actions, long before I purchased a care and ever since. This is what I would call, Integrity in ACTION. It's not about the one off sale for them, Asif and his team truly understand the lifetime value of a single customer.

If you're going to buy a Honda, it's well worth the trip to Okotoks and buy from anyone on Asif's team
